SB Beauty Chronicles: Sun & Skin

10 Jul

Let’s talk skincare. THE single most important thing that you can do to keep your skin looking young is to protect it! You only get one epidermis and there is no fountain of youth. #truth

During summer, we are flooded with a multitude of “tanned” body images. It can be very tempting to bake in the sun for a few hours, without sunblock. Don’t do it! Trust me on this one. Unprotected sun exposure can increase lines, wrinkles, and sun spots – and let’s not forget the risk of skin cancer.

Untanned (or lightly tanned) skin is classy and elegant: case in point, Taylor Swift. Check out this article about celebrities who look better without a tan. If you really want that deep summer tan, please just go for a spray tan or try an at home system.

Now for the important part, sunblock. My favorite brand is Coola. It is a mineral formula that doesn’t contain parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. They have an amazing matte tint line, which keeps you looking cool and smooth (not oily and greasy). It is made for the face, but I use it on my entire body. You’ll love it it. You can find it at Nordstrom here or Sephora here.

Your gorgeous skin deserves flattering swimwear. I particularly like bright colors, to provide a good contrast. This pink suit pops on anyone. Even if you aren’t used to wearing super bright colors…give it a try for a swim suit. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Just remember: Don’t shush the SPF. Protect you skin and you’ll look amazing for many years to come.

{We photographed this series at one of the most amazing spots on Maui. During special times of the year at Baldwin Beach, the sun shines directly through the hills and creates one of the best spots for watching the sunset, EVER. We happened to be there for this exact moment. Incredible. These were truly some of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced. So, I wanted to share them with you. Hope you enjoy!}

SB Beauty Chronicles: Lash Extensions

9 May

SB is starting a new beauty feature! Let’s face it (no pun intended), we can all use a little beauty pick me up, every once in a while. This month’s feature is all about lashes. Wink wink.

Whether you like to hit the snooze button or just want more freedom to work out, make breakfast, meditate, or spend time with your family, I think we would all like to have some extra time in the morning.

I’ve recently discovered a solution and one major way to cut down on your morning routine – lash extensions. I’ve always been “skeptical” about any type of extensions, because I had so many questions. But, I decided to take the plunge, try them out, and share my experience with all of you.

It was relaxing, painless, and they are a dream. Check out my results, before & after photos, and FAQs:

Will extensions damage my natural lashes?
No. If you are going to a reputable salon and a skilled technician, your natural lashes will be perfectly fine.

How long do the extensions last?
About a month or two (then you can get “fills” as needed).

Can I wear eyeliner/ mascara?
The BEST part about having lash extensions is that you don’t need to wear any. Your lashes are full enough to create the look of natural eyeliner. And no mascara is needed with those gorgeous full lashes.

How long does the initial application take?
About 2 hours, which means you can put down your phone and relax!

How much do they cost?
A high quality, full set of lashes is typically around $300. But, Dolce Blu is doing a special for all Style Beacon followers for only $129. Just mention STYLE BEACON when booking your appointment.

Will I be sad when they are gone?
Maybe. JK! If you decide to forgo any fills, they will eventually fall off naturally. But, during the time that you have the extensions, you can use Latisse, RevitaLash, Lash Boots, etc. That way, your natural lashes will have some extra volume when the time comes to part with your extensions.

Let me know if you would like to see more SB Beauty Chronicles or have any other questions about my experience!

Future of Fashion

9 Mar

With longer days just around the corner, we all find ourselves injecting more color into our lives. This year’s Pantone pastels are perfect for spring (and were the overall inspiration for this outfit that I snagged at Kiki Nass).

Perhaps the best part of this look is the bracelet. WiseWear has masterfully created fashionable and functional jewelry that allows you to stay chic, connected, safe, and fit!

This smart jewelry does it all: tracks your daily activity, notifies for incoming calls, texts, emails, & calendar reminders, and has a safety setting. In the event of an urgent situation, just tap to send a distress signal along with your geolocation and sound/video recording of your surroundings. Just imagine if every woman had one of these…

We had such a fun time on this shoot. Be sure to check out the other fab ladies pictured below: Dani Austin, Fixin to Thrill, & Beaded by W.

Perhaps this really is the future of fashion!

Get your Mock On

24 Feb

The turtleneck is baaaaack. And we aren’t talking about the old school, awkward, double chin style.

The mock turtleneck might be your new best friend. They are universally flattering, on-trend, and classy. Unlike full-length turtlenecks, mocks only rise to the midline of your neck. So you get the simplicity of a turtleneck, without the fuss.

This mock swing dress is a great closet staple. It can be styled a million different ways. If the weather is cooler, pair it with a scarf and OTK boots. As temps warm, wear it with peep toe boots and a pendant. Just grab a tote and get out the door.

Now, go get your mock on (cue Missy Elliot music).
