SB Beauty Chronicles: At-Home Microdermabrasion

17 Sep

A few months ago, at the Nordstrom Beauty event, I had a chance to check out the wide variety of at-home products and devices that are available to consumers. I’ve always been particularly curious about personal Microdermabrasion and laser treatments.

I finally had a chance to see one in action – the PMD (Personal Microdermabrasion) device. The guinea pig? My Mom. She’s already a natural beauty, so I was curious to see how her skin looked after the session. She sat in the chair while they performed the treatment on her, smiling and chatting with everyone (as she always does – she’s the sweetest). Just minutes later, they were “done.” The results were amazing. She instantly had smoother looking, glowing skin. I was so impressed, that I bought one to surprise her for her birthday!

Fast foward a few months, I decided that I needed one too. When the opportunity arose to work with PMD, I was super excited. The benefits of Microdermabrasion are: smoothing and evening skin tone, diminishing dark spots and fine lines, increasing product absorption, and exfoliating the dermis. I’ve only been using the device for a few months and I’ve already noticed all of these benefits. I can’t believe that I didn’t try this sooner.

If you’d like one for yourself (I highly recommend), you can find the PMD here

Looking Forward

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards  –Steve Jobs

First off, I’d like to thank you for sticking with me over the past few months. I would be lying if I told you that life has been perfect…contrary to the highlight reel of Instagram. I haven’t been able to spend as much time with you all and I’m sorry for that.

One thing holds true: everything happens for a reason. We’ve had some crazy living circumstances lately and I have some great life (and fashion) lessons to share with you. Being without our belongings for six months really put things into perspective. More details coming soon.

The good news is that the worst is behind us (finally!). I’m ready to enter into this next phase with a fresh start and a new perspective. All outfit details below!

SB Beauty Chronicles: Sun & Skin

10 Jul

Let’s talk skincare. THE single most important thing that you can do to keep your skin looking young is to protect it! You only get one epidermis and there is no fountain of youth. #truth

During summer, we are flooded with a multitude of “tanned” body images. It can be very tempting to bake in the sun for a few hours, without sunblock. Don’t do it! Trust me on this one. Unprotected sun exposure can increase lines, wrinkles, and sun spots – and let’s not forget the risk of skin cancer.

Untanned (or lightly tanned) skin is classy and elegant: case in point, Taylor Swift. Check out this article about celebrities who look better without a tan. If you really want that deep summer tan, please just go for a spray tan or try an at home system.

Now for the important part, sunblock. My favorite brand is Coola. It is a mineral formula that doesn’t contain parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. They have an amazing matte tint line, which keeps you looking cool and smooth (not oily and greasy). It is made for the face, but I use it on my entire body. You’ll love it it. You can find it at Nordstrom here or Sephora here.

Your gorgeous skin deserves flattering swimwear. I particularly like bright colors, to provide a good contrast. This pink suit pops on anyone. Even if you aren’t used to wearing super bright colors…give it a try for a swim suit. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Just remember: Don’t shush the SPF. Protect you skin and you’ll look amazing for many years to come.

{We photographed this series at one of the most amazing spots on Maui. During special times of the year at Baldwin Beach, the sun shines directly through the hills and creates one of the best spots for watching the sunset, EVER. We happened to be there for this exact moment. Incredible. These were truly some of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced. So, I wanted to share them with you. Hope you enjoy!}
